RAMALLAH, May 31, 2026 (WAFA) – Vice President of the State of Palestine Hussein Al Sheikh met with Russian Ambassador to Palestine Gocha Buachidze to discuss the latest political developments at the local and international levels, as well as ongoing issues related to the Palestinian cause.

Al Sheikh reaffirmed the Palestinian leadership’s determination to move forward with strengthening and consolidating the democratic process within national institutions, reflecting its commitment to the will of the Palestinian people and efforts to build an independent Palestinian state.

He also reviewed the major challenges hindering security and stability, foremost among them the continuing war on Gaza, the escalation of attacks by Israeli colonists across the occupied West Bank, including Jerusalem, and the serious repercussions of Israel’s continued withholding of Palestinian revenues, along with the resulting economic, political and humanitarian consequences for the Palestinian people and their institutions.

Meantime, Buachidze stressed the importance of intensifying international efforts aimed at ending the escalation and achieving de-escalation. He reiterated Russia’s support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions.

The Russian envoy also emphasized the need to maintain dialogue and coordination to promote security and stability and advance peace efforts in the region, in line with the aspirations of its peoples for development and prosperity.
