GAZA, October 26, 2026 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation forces last night set fire to a displacement camp at the Shuja’iyya junction, east of Gaza City, displacing more than 800 Palestinians, including women, children, elderly people and patients, according to local sources.
They said Israeli quadcopter drones set the entire camp ablaze last, burning the tents of displaced families and their belongings and affecting more than 200 families.
They added that the fire triggered panic and fear among the families, who once again found themselves out in the open, without shelter or alternatives to protect them from the harsh living and humanitarian conditions.
Human rights advocates described the burning of the camp as a policy of “forced displacement and continuous uprooting,” arguing that the incident could amount to a “full-fledged war crime and crime against humanity,” saying it constituted a violation of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions.
They called on the international community, the United Nations, and human rights organizations to urgently intervene to halt the genocide and ongoing destruction of Gaza.
They also appealed to relief agencies and international organizations operating in the genocide-stricken Strip to provide tents and alternative shelter for families who had lost their homes.
Israel has waged a military genocidal onslaught on the Strip since 7 October 2023, killing 74,555 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injuring 175,727 others. It has destroyed 90% of the Strip’s infrastructure, with the cost of Gaza reconstruction estimated at $70 billion.
Since the Gaza ceasefire agreement went into effect on October 11, 2025, Israel has killed 1,559 Palestinians and injured 5,608 others. The bodies of 845 slain Palestinians have been recovered during the same period.
In the last 24 hours, the bodies of 11 slain Palestinians, including three recovered from the rubble, and 35 casualties were rushed to Gaza hospitals.
Moreover, at least 10,000 people are unaccounted for, presumed dead under the rubble of their homes throughout the Strip.
The Israeli aggression has also resulted in the forceful displacement of nearly two million people from all over the Gaza Strip, with the vast majority of the displaced forced into the densely crowded southern city of Rafah near the border with Egypt – in what has become Palestine’s largest mass exodus since the 1948 Nakba.
