President Abbas condemns attack on church in Jordan, offers condolences to King Abdullah II

RAMALLAH, October 24, 2026 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas on Saturday held a telephone call with Jordanian King Abdullah II, expressing condolences over the terrorist attack targeting St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church in Jordan’s Karak Governorate, which killed several people and injured others.

During the call, President Abbas extended his heartfelt condolences to the king, the Jordanian government and people, and the victims’ families, on behalf of the State of Palestine and the Palestinian people, as well as in his own name. He also wished those injured a speedy recovery.

President Abbas strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a heinous crime, and reiterated Palestine’s absolute rejection of all forms of terrorism and violence, including attacks on innocent people and places of worship, which he said contradict the teachings of divine religions and human and moral values.

He affirmed the State of Palestine’s full solidarity with Jordan and its support for the kingdom during this painful time. The President expressed confidence in Jordan’s ability, under King Abdullah II’s leadership, to overcome the ordeal, preserve national unity and social cohesion, and uphold the values of Muslim-Christian brotherhood and peaceful coexistence.

The President also wished Jordan and its people continued security and stability, praying that the kingdom be protected from all harm.
