Ahead of Israeli elections: Israeli extremist minister storms al-Aqsa Mosque

JERUSALEM, October 26, 2026 (WAFA) – On Monday, the extremist Israeli "Minister of National Security," Itamar Ben-Gvir, stormed the courtyards of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque under heavy security, on the eve of the Israeli Knesset elections scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday.

The Jerusalem Governorate reported that Ben-Gvir, accompanied by Knesset member Moshe Feiglin, entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.

Ben-Gvir had previously stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque on September 28, accompanied by the Minister of Defense, Israel Katz—coinciding with incursions by groups of colonists during the Jewish holiday of Sukkot ("Feast of Tabernacles"). He also stormed the site on August 31, during which he performed Talmudic rituals in the eastern area of the mosque’s courtyards.

This incursion occurs amidst ongoing Israeli violations against the Al-Aqsa Mosque and repeated entries by Ben-Gvir. His actions align with his stated position advocating for the expansion of Jewish prayer within the mosque’s courtyards—a move that raises concerns regarding a potential alteration to the site’s established historical and legal status quo.
