Presidency condemns terrorist attack targeting church in Jordan’s Al-Karak

RAMALLAH, October 23, 2026 (WAFA) – The Presidency condemned on Friday the terrorist attack targeting the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George in the Hamoud area of Jordan’s Karak Governorate, which resulted in the killing of seven people and the injury of 34 others.

The Presidency reaffirmed in a statement the State of Palestine’s absolute rejection of all forms of terrorism and violence targeting innocent people and places of worship, describing such acts as an assault on human, religious and moral values.

It expressed the State of Palestine’s full solidarity with Jordan, under the leadership of King Abdullah II, and with the brotherly Jordanian people in all their diversity, following this tragic incident.

It stressed that targeting places of worship and innocent civilians is a condemned and unacceptable crime that cannot be justified under any pretext and runs counter to the teachings of the heavenly religions, which call for tolerance, love, fraternity and respect for human dignity.

The Presidency also stressed that this crime would not undermine the unity and cohesion of the brotherly Jordanian people, nor would it succeed in sowing division and discord within the same society. It noted that solidarity between Muslims and Christians, along with adherence to the values of coexistence, constitutes a fundamental pillar in confronting extremist ideology and terrorism in all its forms.

It expressed confidence in Jordan and its relevant institutions to pursue those responsible for this crime and bring them to justice, ensuring that they are held accountable under the law and preventing the recurrence of such attacks, which threaten the security and stability of societies.

The Presidency conveyed President Mahmoud Abbas’ condolences and sympathy to King Abdullah II, the Jordanian government and people, as well as to the families and relatives of the victims. President Abbas wished the injured a speedy recovery and reaffirmed that the Palestinian people stand alongside their Jordanian brothers and sisters in confronting terrorism and extremism and in defending the values of humanity, coexistence, and peace.
