TULKAREM, Friday, October 21, 2022 (WAFA) – Israeli forces today attacked Staff of the settlement and wall resistnece commission and activits giving a helping hand to Palestinians in harveting their olive crops in lands threatned with seizure by israel in the town of Qaffin to the north of Tulkarem.
Israeli forces attacked with a barrage of tear gas canisters and rubber-coated steel bullets the commission’s staff and activists who came to help Palestinian farmers harvest their olive crops in lands threatened with confiscation by the Israeli authorities in the town of Qaffin.
The head of the commission suffered from severe suffocation due to tear gas inhalation and his escort officer was shot in the thigh at point-blank range with a tear gas canister. They were both taken to hospital for medical treatment.
Mayor of Qaffin said that the commission’s staff and activists were attacked by Israeli forces with tear gas canisters and rubber-coated steel bullets and prevented from reaching the lands to lend farmers a helping hand.
The commission previously said that its staff, including the head of the commission, and popular resistance activists have been subjected to an unprecedented incitement campaign against them on social media by settlers’ organizations that call to punish the head of the commission and describe him as a terrorist on the loose.
The commission noted that this incitement campaign has turned into actions on the ground through the targeting of the head of the commission by Israeli forces in various popular resistance activities.
Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh yesterday warned against the Israeli incitement campaign against the head of the commission and its staff on social media, and held the Israeli government directly responsible for the repercussions of these threats.
He demanded the Israeli government to rein in the settlers’ attacks in the Palestinian territories.
