GAZA, September 6, 2026 (WAFA) — Palestinians in Gaza City today buried the remains of around 100 Palestinians at the Martyrs Cemetery in the al-Zeitoun neighborhood, southeast of the city, after their bodies were recovered from beneath the rubble of homes destroyed during the early months of the Israeli genocide.

WAFA correspondent reported that the remains of around 100 Palestinians, most of them women and children, were recovered from the ruins of buildings belonging to the Malka, Irheim, al-Balaawi and Salmi families in al-Zeitoun.

The funeral procession began outside Imam al-Shafi'i Mosque in al-Zeitoun, with hundreds of relatives of the victims and residents of the neighborhood taking part after bidding farewell to the bodies, which were wrapped in Palestinian flags. Relatives also delivered remarks during the funeral.

The mourners then headed to the Martyrs Cemetery near al-Ahli Arab Hospital, where collective graves were prepared and the remains were laid to rest.

Local crews, in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross, recovered the bodies after heavy machinery, including excavators, trucks, bulldozers and rubble-removal equipment, was made available to clear the remains of homes that collapsed on their residents during Israel’s war on Gaza.
