WASHINGTON, September 6, 2026 (WAFA) – American human rights organizations and members of Congress renewed their demands for an independent investigation and accountability for those responsible for the killing of Turkish-American activist Ayşenur Eygi, coinciding with the second anniversary of her death at the hands of Israeli occupation forces in the West Bank. This comes amid criticism of the continued lack of accountability in her case.
Democratic Representative Pramila Jayapal, whose district Eygi represented, stated that two years since her death have not yet led to an independent investigation or the achievement of justice, despite repeated demands from her family and members of Congress. She affirmed that they will continue to press for accountability, in honor of Eygi's memory and to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
Meanwhile, American institutions and organizations supporting Palestinian rights renewed their demands for accountability for those responsible for the killing of Eygi, calling on the US administration to take measures to hold Israel accountable, including halting military aid and imposing sanctions for violations against Palestinians and Americans.
Eygi, a 26-year-old American-Turkish citizen, was killed on September 6, 2024, during the Israeli occupation forces' suppression of a peaceful anti-settlement demonstration in the town of Beita, south of Nablus.
Since her death, her family, members of Congress, and human rights organizations have called on the US administration to conduct an independent American investigation into the circumstances of her killing, and not to rely solely on the Israeli investigation.
