Six Palestinian Tawjihi students detained during final exams, Prisoner's Society says

RAMALLAH, July 2, 2026 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Prisoner's Society said on Thursday that the number of Tawjihi (secondary school final examination) students detained by Israeli occupation forces during the examination period has risen to six, following the detention of two additional students.

The organization said Israeli forces detained Diaa Abdel Fattah Jawabra, 18, from Al-Arroub refugee camp, after raiding his family home at dawn yesterday. During the raid, soldiers vandalized the house, damaged its contents, and assaulted members of his family.

Earlier today, Israeli forces also detained Amr Osama Rabay'a, 18, a Tawjihi student, from Jenin after storming his family's home.

The Palestinian Prisoner's Society said the continued targeting of Tawjihi students reflects a systematic policy aimed at denying Palestinian students their right to education and preventing them from completing this critical stage of their studies.

According to data from the Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education cited by the organization, 65 Tawjihi students had already been detained before the examination began. With the detention of six students during the examination period, the total number of detained Tawjihi students has risen to 71.

The organization said the large-scale detention campaigns across the occupied West Bank, which have intensified since the start of the war in Gaza, continue to target various segments of Palestinian society, particularly students.
