GAZA, August 16, 2026 (WAFA) — The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) today facilitated the transfer of 35 released detainees from the Kerem Shalom crossing to Nasser Medical Complex in Gaza, as well as their communication and reunification with their families.

The ICRC said in a statement that since 2023, it has facilitated the transfer of more than 2,700 detainees who were released and transferred in this manner.

The committee said it has been unable to access detainees held in Israeli detention facilities since October 2023, stressing the need to be informed of the fate and whereabouts of all detainees and to be granted access to them.

It stressed that under international humanitarian law, detainees must be treated humanely, provided with appropriate detention conditions, and allowed to communicate with their families.

The ICRC noted that many Palestinian families are anxiously awaiting any news about their detained loved ones and remain concerned about their health and safety. It said it continues its dialogue with the Israeli authorities to resume visits to all protected persons held in Israeli detention facilities.
