RAMALLAH, August 13, 2026 (WAFA) — The Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs said on Thursday that Palestinian detainee Qusay Abed Alian, 27, from the occupied Jerusalem town of Issawiya, is facing difficult detention conditions at Israel’s Gilboa prison amid chronic health problems that have affected him since birth.
The commission said in a report that Alian, who has been detained since December 14, 2021, suffers from lung problems and requires an injection every 14 days. However, the prison administration has withheld the medication for a month.
It added that Alian also suffers from severe immune deficiency and requires a healthy diet, continuous medical care and special milk. He continues to suffer from scabies despite receiving treatment a year ago, which proved ineffective, and urgently needs prescription eyeglasses.
Alian is serving a 14-and-a-half-year prison sentence, according to the commission.
Regarding detention conditions at Gilboa, the commission said Alian told its lawyer that prisoners are allowed outside for exercise for no more than 40 minutes a day, divided between morning and evening periods.
Alian also reported that food portions remain extremely limited, which has affected his physical condition and caused him to lose a significant amount of weight, according to the commission.
