RAMALLAH, November 4, 2026 (WAFA) – The Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs said Palestinian female detainee Hanaa Mohammad Hassan al-Bidq, from Ramallah, is suffering from health problems exacerbated by her imprisonment. She has been detained since September 7, 2025, and remains in custody under harsh and inhumane conditions.
According to the commission, al-Bidq told her lawyer that she requires regular treatment for hypothyroidism, a condition she had before her detention. However, since her detention, she has not been referred to an endocrinologist to assess her health and determine the appropriate medication dosage.
Her condition requires regular blood tests and specialist medical consultations at intervals of no more than six months, as her dosage must be adjusted periodically based on the test results.
The detainee has also been suffering from scabies since last July, with symptoms persisting to this day amid what the commission described as deliberate medical neglect. She has also lost 42 kilograms as a result of the starvation policy in Israeli prisons.
Al-Bidq reported that on October 8, female detainees were subjected to a raid and assault inside Damon Prison by units of the Israeli Prison Service's Yamaz special forces, accompanied by the prison officer.
The incident involved handcuffing the detainees with their hands behind their backs, blindfolding them, and beating them as they were taken to another section. Gas canisters were also emptied inside the cells, while the detainees were subjected to verbal abuse and insults.
There are 82 female detainees held at Damon Prison, in addition to detainee Bushra al-Taweel, who is held in solitary confinement outside the prison.
Regarding food, al-Bidq said detainees receive very small portions of poor-quality food.
As for outdoor exercise time, she said female detainees are allowed half an hour in the prison yard, but not on a regular basis.
Meanwhile, female detainee Saja Daraghmeh, who has been held since January 22, 2026, suffers from migraines and impaired vision and is being denied medical treatment, like other Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons.
She also reported contracting scabies last July and suffering from severe, persistent pain and itching around the clock, without receiving the necessary treatment.
