TEL AVIV, November, 12, 2024 (WAFA) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has joined the far-right in his government, led by Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, in calling for the annexation of the West Bank and the imposition of Israeli sovereignty over it.
Netanyahu said during talks in recent days that "the possibility of presenting the annexation plan for large areas in the West Bank to Israel must be restored," according to the Israeli radio station Kan.
Kan claimed that "work on the annexation is ready for implementation," noting that a team headed by Minister Yariv Levin in 2020 had established regulations and orders and drafted a government decision on this plan, which included paving roads to all colonies, including random outposts, and annexing areas of land to them for the purpose of expanding them.
During the Religious Zionism party's weekly faction meeting in the Knesset, Smotrich stated that there is broad consensus now in both the coalition and opposition in the Knesset to oppose the establishment of a Palestinian state, which he said would pose a threat to the existence of Israel.
