RAMALLAH, October 19, 2026 (WAFA) — In the early hours of Tuesday, settlers set fire to a "welcome" monument at the entrance to the village of Burqa, east of Ramallah, causing significant damage.
Sayel Kanaan, head of the Burqa Village Council, told WAFA that a group of settlers set fire to the monument by igniting vehicle tires on its stonework, resulting in extensive damage.
He added that local residents managed to extinguish the blaze and have begun efforts to restore the monument.
These attacks coincide with the start of the olive harvest season—a period that typically sees an escalation in settler violence against Palestinian farmers. Such acts include the theft of olives, the cutting down or burning of trees, and the seizure of crops, all aimed at preventing farmers from accessing their land and benefiting from their agricultural harvest.
According to available data, settlers carried out 647 attacks over the past month. The highest number of incidents occurred in the Ramallah and al-Bireh Governorate (506 attacks), followed by Nablus (342), Hebron (272), Jenin (202), Bethlehem (187), Tulkarm (152), and Jerusalem (149).
