Protest held in Qalqilya-area village against Israeli closure of main entrance

QALQILYA, October 19, 2026 (WAFA) — Residents of the town of Azzun, east of Qalqilya, held a protest on Monday to oppose the Israeli occupation forces' closure of the town’s main entrance.

The protest was joined by international solidarity activists, as well as residents from neighboring villages and towns. Participants held signs condemning the occupation’s measures and restrictions on the movement of citizens. They expressed their firm rejection of the closure of the town’s main entrance, noting that it causes significant hardship for the local population, hinders their daily travel, and obstructs their access to workplaces, educational institutions, and healthcare facilities.

They demanded the reopening of the entrance and an end to the measures that exacerbate the suffering of the residents and restrict their freedom of movement.

This protest comes amid ongoing, stringent military measures imposed by the occupation forces on the town of Azzun. The main entrance has remained closed since October 2023, and military checkpoints have been set up at the town’s secondary entrances. These actions force residents to take long, circuitous routes to reach their workplaces, neighboring towns, and agricultural lands, further compounding their suffering.
