Wholesale prices in Palestine rise 17% amid Israeli aggression on Gaza

RAMALLAH, October 20, 2024 (WAFA) – The wholesale price index in Palestine has increased by 17% since the onset of Israeli aggression on Gaza on October 7, 2023, according to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics.

In a press release on Sunday, the bureau noted that the wholesale price index began to decline in the third quarter of 2024, decreasing by 1.58% compared to the second quarter of the same year. This decline included a 4.27% drop in locally produced and consumed goods and a 0.32% decrease in imported goods.

Conversely, prices for certain categories saw increases: fruits and vegetables rose by 15.42%; dairy products and eggs by 14.31%; household furniture by 10.45%; and live animals by 6.07%.

Additionally, the wholesale and retail trade sector, including the repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, recorded a decrease of 0.63%, which constitutes 11% of wholesale trade. Prices for new vehicles declined by 3.06%, while wholesale prices for vehicle maintenance and repairs increased by 1.07%.
