RAMALLAH, October 12, 2026 (WAFA) – Vice President Hussein Al Sheikh reaffirmed on Monday full commitment to conducting general elections.
“We reaffirm our full commitment to implementing the Basic Law and the provisions related to conducting general elections, out of our faith in pluralism and the peaceful transfer of power, and the renewal of leaderships and their legitimacy through one sole path: the ballot box,” Al Sheikh posted on X.
He call upon the international community to “pressure the Israeli occupation authorities to create an atmosphere conducive to holding these elections in East Jerusalem, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip by halting all repressive and terrorist measures by the occupation army and its settlers, and by removing more than a thousand barriers that have turned the West Bank into isolated detention cantons for an entire people, and by stopping its crimes in the Gaza Strip, and by returning our stolen funds through Israeli piracy.”
“We pledge to reschedule the date to an earlier time, for holding concurrent presidential and legislative elections in an interconnected manner as soon as the appropriate conditions are available that ensure the integrity, transparency, and credibility of the electoral process,” he added.
He stressed that “elections are not a mere formal display, but a substantive matter that expresses the will of a people that must be exercised with at least the minimum of dignity and independence.”
