RAMALLAH, September 26, 2026 (WAFA) — The Central Committee of the Palestinian National Liberation Movement (Fatah) held a meeting today chaired by Hussein al-Sheikh, Vice President of the State of Palestine and Deputy Chairman of Fatah, to discuss political, national and organizational developments and the latest developments on the Palestinian scene.
The meeting addressed broader political developments and the situation in the occupied West Bank, including Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip, as well as the challenges facing the Palestinian cause amid rapidly unfolding developments.
The committee discussed the national, political and organizational responsibilities required to preserve the unity of Palestinian territory, the national cause and decision-making, and to strengthen Palestinians' steadfastness and adherence to their legitimate national rights.
The committee decided to remain in permanent session to follow political, field and organizational developments and address challenges and risks facing the Palestinian national project, including displacement, annexation and settlement expansion. It said efforts would continue to protect Palestinian rights and national resources and strengthen Palestinians' steadfastness on their land.
In response to President Mahmoud Abbas' call for Egypt to host a comprehensive national dialogue, the committee unanimously decided to immediately begin preparations for the dialogue. It said it hoped the dialogue's outcomes would help safeguard the Palestinian national project and protect the gains achieved by the Palestinian people over six decades of struggle.
The committee formed a delegation to begin the national dialogue, describing it as an effort aimed at strengthening Palestinian partnership and addressing the political and national challenges facing Palestinians.
The committee also stressed the importance of holding general and Palestinian National Council elections, describing them as a right of the Palestinian people and a means of renewing political legitimacy and strengthening the unity of the Palestinian political system.
It called for creating the necessary conditions to hold elections throughout the Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip, and for enabling the Central Elections Commission to carry out its duties freely. It also called for removing obstacles that it said Israel imposes on Palestinian participation in the electoral process.
The committee said it looked forward to a positive approach from all Palestinian and regional parties to ensure the success of the national dialogue and build national partnership through the ballot box.
It also commended Egypt's efforts to support the Palestinian national project and the establishment of a Palestinian state on all territory occupied in 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
