RAMALLAH, September 30, 2026 (WAFA) — Vice President of the State of Palestine Hussein al-Sheikh received Egypt’s newly appointed ambassador to the State of Palestine, Bassem Abdel Hadi, on Wednesday, with the two discussing the historic and fraternal ties between Palestine and Egypt, ways to strengthen cooperation and coordination, and the latest political, national, and regional developments.

Al-Sheikh welcomed the Egyptian ambassador and wished him success in his new post, stressing the depth of Palestinian-Egyptian relations and Egypt’s historic and pivotal role in supporting the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people and their legitimate national rights.

Al-Sheikh briefed Abdel Hadi on the latest political and field developments and efforts being undertaken at various levels to end the suffering of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, strengthen the humanitarian response, and enable the State of Palestine and its national institutions to fulfill their responsibilities in a manner that preserves the unity of the Palestinian land, people, and political system.

He also highlighted efforts to consolidate the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid, support reconstruction, and advance a political process based on international legitimacy resolutions, leading to an end to the occupation and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

The two sides also discussed a number of issues of mutual concern, including preparations for upcoming Palestinian elections and the importance of supporting the democratic process in a way that strengthens the unity of the Palestinian political system. They also discussed the deteriorating situation in the West Bank, continued settler attacks and violence, and the continued withholding of Palestinian funds.

For his part, Ambassador Abdel Hadi reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to continuing its support for the Palestinian people and their just cause, and to strengthening bilateral relations and coordination. He stressed Egypt’s longstanding position in support of the legitimate national rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
