JERUSALEM, Tuesday, March 12, 2019 (WAFA) – A large Israeli police force broke this afternoon into Al-Aqsa Mosque holy compound in Jerusalem’s Old City, assaulted all worshippers before forcing them to leave the compound and close all gates leading to it, according to witnesses.
They said the police raided the compound after a fire broke out at a police station inside the compound and started to beat everyone in their way, including women, children
The police then forced all those inside the compound to leave it before arresting some and closing all gates.
Witnesses also said police closed some gates leading to the Old City, mainly Damascus Gate, as youths started gathering trying to reach Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Tension remained high in the Old City and at the vicinity of the Muslim holy compound.
