Colonists destroy drinking water network in Al-Rashayda, east of Bethlehem

BETHLEHEM, June 9, 2026 (WAFA) – Israeli colonists on Tuesday destroyed the drinking water network in the village of Al-Rashayda, east of Bethlehem, depriving residents and livestock breeders of their primary source of water.

The head of Al-Rashayda Village Council, Bakr Rashayda, told WAFA that colonists vandalized the water network at the village entrance, causing a disruption in water supply to homes and inflicting direct damage on the livestock sector, which constitutes the main source of income for local residents.

He explained that the village’s population relies heavily on sheep and livestock breeding, noting that Al-Rashayda is home to approximately 35,000 sheep and more than 700 camels. He added that targeting the water network has severe repercussions for this vital sector and results in significant losses for herders and livestock owners.

Rashayda further stated that colonists' attacks against the village’s residents have escalated in recent months, including the harassment of shepherds, preventing them from accessing grazing lands, the seizure of livestock, and the demolition of rooms and tents in the Bedouin areas affiliated with the village.
