Public Prosecution condemns assault on its members and staff while en route to Jericho

RAMALLAH, June 9, 2026 (WAFA) – The Public Prosecution condemned the crime committed by Israeli occupation forces on Tuesday morning against several of its members and staff on the road linking Ramallah and Jericho, which included direct physical assault, detention, abuse, and threats of field execution by pointing weapons at them. It said the incident reflects a grave disregard for the lives and dignity of Palestinian civilians as part of a systematic oppressive policy faced daily at military checkpoints.

In a statement, the Prosecution said that targeting its members and staff while they were performing their official duties in Jericho, and subjecting them to beatings, humiliation, and intimidation, constitutes a serious violation of international humanitarian law and relevant international conventions protecting civilians and justice sector workers. It added that the incident once again exposes a system of organized violence practiced by the occupation forces against the Palestinian people amid a lack of accountability or effective international protection.

The statement further stressed that what happened cannot be separated from the policy of collective punishment and daily violations against Palestinians at military checkpoints, including humiliation, abuse, detention, and physical and psychological assault, in a continuing escalation targeting Palestinians’ fundamental rights, freedoms, and dignity.

It reaffirmed its commitment to carrying out its national and legal mission despite all violations targeting its personnel and justice institutions, and its adherence to the rule of law and the protection of the rights of the Palestinian people.
