Foreign Ministry welcomes sanctions imposed by United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, France, New Zealand and Norway on entities supporting colonist violence

RAMALLAH, June 9, 2026 (WAFA) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates on Tuesday evening welcomed the announcement by the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, France, New Zealand and Norway of a new package of coordinated sanctions targeting several individuals and entities involved in financing, supporting and carrying out colonist attacks against the Palestinian people in the occupied Palestinian Territory, amid an escalation in colonist violence and organized crimes across the occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem.

The ministry said these sanctions represent an important step in the right direction, consistent with the principles, values and laws upheld by these countries and their international commitments.

It stressed that international law is not political rhetoric but a binding obligation that must be respected and implemented, affirming that colonial settlement activity in all its forms is illegal and unlawful, constitutes a direct threat to the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, and undermines security and stability.

It added that daily attacks against Palestinian citizens in the occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, targeting lives, property, land and holy sites, are carried out within the framework of an official Israeli policy based on colonial settlement expansion, forced displacement and land seizure, under the direct protection and support of the occupation army and its various arms.

The Ministry called for more serious and effective international measures to hold all those involved accountable, including the extremist occupation government.

The ministry also welcomed international positions affirming the illegality of colonial settlements and warnings issued to companies, institutions and individuals against engaging in any economic or financial activities with or within settlements built on occupied Palestinian land.

It described these positions as a necessary step in line with international law and relevant international legitimacy resolutions.

It called on the international community and all states to build on these steps by imposing further deterrent sanctions on the entire colonial settlement system, affirming the responsibility of the occupation government for colonist crimes, prohibiting dealings with settlement products in global markets, and implementing the principle of universal jurisdiction.

It also urged the adoption of practical measures to protect the Palestinian people and ensure the implementation of international legitimacy resolutions and the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, in a way that contributes to ending the occupation and establishing an independent State of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital.
