OIC chief condemns Israeli assault on Hebron, forced displacement of 1,500 Palestinians

JEDDAH, October 24, 2026 (WAFA) – Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed condemned the large-scale Israeli assault on Hebron, which has forcibly displaced 1,500 Palestinians from their homes, describing it as a dangerous escalation within a policy of ethnic cleansing and forced displacement carried out by Israeli occupation forces and colonists.

The secretary-general warned of the dangers posed by these colonial schemes, which aim to alter the demographic and geographic character of Hebron and its surroundings. He stressed that systematic demolitions and mass displacement constitute flagrant violations of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions.

He also condemned ongoing Israeli violations against religious sites in the city, including the continued closure of the Ibrahimi Mosque and the prevention of worshippers from reaching it, describing these measures as a blatant attack on freedom of worship and the sanctity of holy places.

Ould Cheikh Ahmed held the Israeli occupation fully responsible for the consequences of these crimes and grave violations. He renewed his urgent call for the international community and the UN Security Council to take immediate and effective action to halt the assault on Hebron, prevent the displacement of its residents, hold the occupation accountable for its crimes, and provide urgent international protection for the Palestinian people.
