UN chief calls for immediate reopening of Gaza crossings and unhindered humanitarian access

NEW YORK, June 9, 2026 (WAFA) – United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for the immediate reopening of all crossings into the Gaza Strip that have been closed by Israel, stressing the need to ensure the rapid, safe, and unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance across the territory.

In a statement issued Monday night, Guterres urged all parties concerned to work toward diplomatic solutions that strengthen regional and international peace and security.

"There is no military solution to the conflicts in the Middle East," Guterres said, emphasizing that dialogue and negotiations remain the only path forward.

He called on all parties involved in the region to fully adhere to and implement the understandings related to ceasefire arrangements in Lebanon, Iran, and Gaza, and to avoid any actions that could undermine ongoing diplomatic efforts.

Guterres further stressed the need for maximum restraint and urged all sides to refrain from steps that could further inflame an already volatile situation.
