Egypt extends opening days of Rafah border crossing

RAFAH, September 6, 2016 (WAFA) – Egypt announced on Tuesday that it will keep Rafah border crossing with the Gaza Strip open through Wednesday, according to officials.

The crossing was first opened on Saturday and was supposed to remain open for two days.

However, Egyptian authorities decided to extend the opening of the crossing in both directions to allow Palestinian pilgrims to join the Hajj in Saudi Arabia and other travelers stuck on both sides to leave or enter the Strip.

The extension came pursuant to the instructions of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi for the upcoming Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha.
