SALFIT, May 21, 2025 (WAFA) – Israeli colonists on Wednesday set up mobile homes on the lands of the Burqin town, west of the occupied West Bank city of Salfit, according to a local source.
Mayor of Buriqin, Faed Sabra, said that colonists, under Israeli army protection, erected makeshift houses on the villagers’ lands, several days after they laid the groundwork for this step, razing the lands and uprooting trees.
He considered this step as part of Israel’s larger scheme to take over Palestinian-owned land and build colonies.
Salfit Governor, Mustafa Taqatqa, slammed this step as a part of the colonists’ scheme, with the direct support of the occupation authorities, to annex Palestinian land in violation of international law.
Colonists’ violence against Palestinians and their property is routine in the West Bank and is rarely prosecuted by Israeli authorities.
Colonists’ violence includes property and mosque arsons, stone-throwing, uprooting of crops and olive trees, and attacks on vulnerable homes, among others.
Approximately 1 million Israeli colonists are living in colonies in the West Bank and East Jerusalem in violation of international law.
