RAMALLAH, August 31, 2026 (WAFA) – The Higher Presidential Committee of Church Affairs condemned on Monday the demolition of the residence of a Christian family in Birzeit and the displacement of another from its residence in Taybeh village in the Ramallah governorate.

The Committee strongly denounced the demolition by Israeli occupation forces of two four-storey residential buildings belonging to the Abed family in Birzeit town, north of Ramallah, as well as the forced eviction of Bashir Naim Kuna’s family from their home in the town of Taybeh, east of Ramallah, under threats and ongoing attacks by colonists.

The Committee affirmed that what occurred constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and was part of Israel’s systematic policy targeting Palestinians and their property, seeking to seize land and homes and impose the reality of colonial settlement construction by force, thereby threatening the Palestinian presence, including the deeply rooted Christian presence on this land.

It noted that the Kuna family moved into their home in Taybeh after spending substantial sums to build and fully equip it, and had lived there for only one week before being compelled to leave.

It reiterated that Palestinian Christians are an integral part of the Palestinian people and of Palestine's history and identity, and that targeting their homes, lands, and property constitutes an assault on the Palestinian presence as a whole.

The Committee called on the international community to assume its legal and political responsibilities and take serious and effective steps to halt these violations and hold those responsible accountable.

It affirmed that policies of demolition, seizure, and forced displacement will not succeed in uprooting the Palestinian people from their land, erasing its Palestinian identity and history, or imposing a new reality by force.
