Justice Minister calls on Britain to take effective measures to halt Israel’s genocidal aggression on Gaza

RAMALLAH, May 21, 2025 (WAFA) - Palestinian Minister of Justice Sharhabeel al-Zaim on Wednesday called on Britain to take effective measures to halt the Israeli genocidal aggression in the Gaza Strip, urging the urgent delivery of humanitarian aid and a serious role in addressing colonial expansion and settler aggression in the West Bank.

This appeal came during a meeting held by al-Zaim at his office in Ramallah with British Minister of State for International Development Baroness Jenny Chapman.

The meeting was attended by British Consul General in Jerusalem Helen Winterton, British Deputy Consul for Political Affairs Chris Parker, and their accompanying delegation.

The Minister of Justice conveyed the greetings of President Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian government, expressing appreciation for Britain's government, people, and king as well as Britain's recent positions that have begun to align with truth and justice, representing a fundamental shift.

Al-Zaim emphasized the importance of the statement issued by the leaders of Britain, France, and Canada, in which they affirmed they would take action if the occupation forces did not halt their aggression against Gaza. The statement also expressed opposition to the expansion of settlements in the West Bank and a determination to recognize a Palestinian state as a contribution to achieving the two-state solution.

The Minister briefed the delegation on developments in the justice sector in Palestine, stressing the Palestinian government's readiness to assume full responsibility in the Gaza Strip and its preparation of plans to do so immediately after the aggression ends. The Ministry of Justice has also prepared its plan to restore justice sector services in Gaza, a practical plan to strengthen the rule of law and public order.

For her part, Chapman emphasized the need for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, expressing concern over the deteriorating humanitarian situation there. She affirmed Britain will do its utmost to ensure the immediate flow of food aid into the Gaza Strip and prevent famine.
