RAMALLAH, September 5, 2016 (WAFA) – Israeli provocations at Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem occupied a prominent space and front page headlines in the three Palestinian Arabic dailies on Monday.
The dailies said scores of Israeli fanatics entered the compound of Al-Aqsa Mosque under heavy police protection after calls by right wing groups to enter the compound and hold Jewish prayers there.
The dailies also highlighted Israeli army raid and arrest campaign in several West Bank locations. Al Quds and al Ayyam said Israeli forces detained a number of Palestinians in overnight large-scale raids across the West Bank.
Al Ayyam and al Hayat al Jadida reported on Israeli closure of roads leading to several villages south of Nablus, including the main entrance to the village of Beita as well as a number of side streets connecting Beita to the village of Huwwara.
The two papers also covered Israeli bombardment of Palestinian sites in the besieged Gaza Strip.
Al Ayyam said Israeli forces bombarded an "observation point” in the northern Gaza Strip town of Beit Lahiya and naval boats opened gunfire at Palestinian fishermen off the coast east of Khan Younis.
The three dailies said Mahmoud al-Balboul, a Palestinian detainee who has been on a hunger strike in Israeli custody since July 4, was rushed to the intensive care unit at Israel’s Assaf Harofeh hospital following serious health complications.
Al Quds reported that Israeli Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked seeks to legalize a settlement outpost built on private Palestinian land in the Gush Etzion settlement bloc south of Jerusalem despite an Israeli High Court ruling that the structures built on that land should be removed.
Al Quds and al Hayat al Jadida highlighted international condemnations of Israeli decision to approve plans for 463 new housing units in West Bank settlements.
They said Germany and Russia have condemned the Israeli settlement expansion as a serious threat to the two-state solution.
Al Hayat al Jadida published a front page report on the Palestinian historic village of Sabastia and a campaign launched to safeguard its historic sites.
