International NGO Network Calls for Immediate Ceasefire in Gaza

ROME, July 29, 2014 – (WAFA) – The International NGO Network called Tuesday for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the immediate provision of humanitarian assistance for Gaza population as well as called for lifting the Israeli siege on Gaza.

The Network said in a press statement that “military operations have failed miserably to bring about justice, peace and security for the population in Gaza Strip and Israel.”

It noted that it has repeatedly called all concerned parties to bring about a ceasefire and protect civilians. It added: “Unfortunately, ceasefire was always temporary. As a result, each time we had to come to save lives, provide urgent assistance programs, help people and innocent to cope with the aftermath of shocks and rebuild Gaza.”

Today, as Israeli military operations in Gaza continue to kill civilians and demolish homes, schools, power plants, neighborhoods and villages, and as missiles continue to be fired from Gaza into Israel, We urge anew for an immediate ceasefire.”

The Network called upon the Italian Government together with the international community to consolidate their efforts and work effectively to reach solutions that contribute to achieving a genuine and just peace for all in the region, including insuring that the perpetrators of violations of international humanitarian law and human rights law are identified in a transparent and systematic manner.
