LATIN AMERICA, June 16, 2025 (WAFA) - Thousands of demonstrators took to the streets in Brazil, Chile, and Mexico to protest Israel's ongoing genocidal war on the Gaza Strip.
Brazilians gathered in downtown São Paulo, the country's largest city, calling on President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to sever diplomatic relations with Israel.
The demonstrators waved Palestinian flags and pictures of Israeli massacres in Gaza. The demonstration was supported by numerous civil society organizations and several members of parliament.
In Santiago, the capital of Chile, demonstrators called on Israel to halt its attacks on Gaza and demanded that President Gabriel Boric sever diplomatic relations with Tel Aviv.
In Mexico, pro-Palestine activists gathered in Mexico City and demanded an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
The Gaza Strip has been suffering a catastrophic humanitarian crisis since the occupation closed all crossings on March 2, preventing the entry of food, medicine, aid, and fuel, while the occupation forces escalate their genocidal campaign against our people in the Strip.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza, including killing, starvation, destruction, and displacement, ignoring international appeals and orders from the International Court of Justice to halt it.
The genocide has left approximately 184,000 dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 11,000 missing. Hundreds of thousands have been displaced, and famine has claimed the lives of many, including children, as well as widespread destruction.
