NEW YORK, June 16, 2025 (WAFA) – The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, warned that the tragedies in Gaza continue unabated, while attention is diverted elsewhere.
In a statement on the Agency's official web page, Lazzarini explained that dozens have been killed and injured in recent days, including starving people who tried to access food within a deadly distribution system.
He pointed out that restrictions on the entry of aid through the United Nations, including UNRWA, continue despite the availability of large quantities of aid ready to enter Gaza. Furthermore, the severe fuel shortage is now hampering the provision of basic services, especially health and water.
Lazzarini explained that the killings will generate more wars and bloodshed, and that civilians will continue to suffer first and foremost.
He emphasized that political will, leadership, and courage are needed more than ever.
