RAMALLAH, March 29, 2026 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Prisoners Affairs Commission and the Palestinian Prisoners Society reported on Sunday that the health of released and exiled Palestinian prisoner Riyad Al-Amour has critically deteriorated.
Al-Amour, who was deported to Egypt last year upon his release from Israeli prisons, is one of the most prominent Palestinian prisoners subjected to systematic medical crimes in Israeli prisons over 23 years, until his release under the October 2025 ceasefire agreement.
In a joint statement, the organizations said Al-Amour suffers from severe heart problems and had waited over 10 years for a pacemaker replacement during his 23 years in detention. During his last two years in prison, he was subjected to intensified abuse and torture, leaving him in extremely poor health upon release.
The statement noted that Al-Amour had faced pursuit before his 2002 detention and endured long and harsh interrogations, during which he suffered severe torture, including losing hearing in one ear.
The Commission and the Prisoners Society said that many released and exiled detainees suffer from extremely serious and dangerous health conditions due to medical crimes committed against them throughout their imprisonment, particularly following the genocide.
They held the Israeli occupation fully responsible for the fate of Al-Amour and other released prisoners in poor health, noting that medical crimes have historically been one of the occupation's main tools to physically and psychologically slowly kill prisoners.
