ICRC facilitates transfer of six detainees released from Israeli prisons to Gaza

GAZA, August 23, 2026 (WAFA) — The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) today facilitated the transfer of six detainees released from Israeli prisons from the Kerem Shalom crossing to Nasser Medical Complex in the Gaza Strip, as well as their contact and reunification with their families.

The ICRC said it has facilitated the transfer of more than 2,700 detainees released in this manner since 2023, noting that it has been unable to access detainees held in Israeli detention centers since October 2023.

It stressed the need to be informed of the fate and whereabouts of all detainees and granted access to them, emphasizing that detainees must be treated humanely, held under appropriate detention conditions, and allowed to communicate with their families in accordance with international humanitarian law.

The ICRC added that many Palestinian families are anxiously awaiting news about their detained loved ones amid concerns for their health and safety, stressing that it continues its dialogue with the Israeli authorities to resume visits to all Palestinian detainees.
