RAMALLAH, December 21, 2025 (WAFA) — The Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs said that Palestinian prisoners held at the Israeli Ramon detention center, particularly those who are ill, are enduring extremely harsh conditions.
In a report released on Sunday following a visit by its lawyer, the commission revealed serious health cases among prisoners at the detention center. One of them is detainee Dhafer Rimawi, 34, from the town of Beit Rima near Ramallah, who is serving a 32-year prison sentence and suffers from a thyroid disorder. Rimawi was scheduled to undergo blood tests in November, but no medical examinations have been carried out to date.
According to Rimawi, the illness causes him to feel constant cold, while he is provided with only one blanket. He added that skin diseases are widespread among prisoners, with foul odors emanating from their bodies due to boils, noting that most detainees suffer from similar conditions.
Rimawi also described severe overcrowding in all sections and rooms, with each room holding between 10 and 12 prisoners. He said rooms have effectively turned into cells, as each contains only six beds, forcing the remaining detainees to sleep on the floor. Each prisoner is provided with just one blanket, a mattress, and the clothes they wear.
Another prisoner, Mohammad Kleib, 29, from the town of Haris in the central West Bank, suffers from torn knee cartilage and has experienced irregular heartbeats for three years. Despite undergoing medical examinations, he has not received any treatment.
The commission added that conditions inside the detention center are extremely difficult, as sections and rooms remain locked, prisoners are unable to communicate with one another, and they are subjected daily to insults, beatings, starvation, and denial of medical care.
