RAMALLAH, June 26, 2025 (WAFA) – The Head of the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs, Raed Abu Al Hummus, revealed today that the Commission possesses alarming information confirming that extrajudicial executions have indeed taken place within Israel’s Sde Teiman detention facility.
In a statement issued Thursday, Abu Al Hummus said the Commission possesses testimonies from released detainees, dating back several months, detailing executions of prisoners inside Sde Teiman in the Negev desert—accounts that, until now, had not been publicly disclosed.
All detainees who died in this facility, accounting for approximately 8% of the total number of prisoners executed since the onset of the ongoing Israeli genocide, totaling 72, were only officially declared dead weeks or even months after their deaths, reflecting what appears to be a systematic policy of concealment and deliberate obfuscation.
He noted that following a recent visit by the Commission’s legal representative to a detainee held at Sde Teiman two days ago, it became evident that the prison’s administration, staff, and accompanying military units operate with a complete disregard for the basic humanity of Palestinian prisoners. The facility, he said, has become emblematic of criminality and disorder, where every guard holds the power to arbitrarily decide whether a prisoner lives or dies.
He highlighted that prisoners inside Sde Teiman are deprived of all their rights and face constant threats to their lives. In addition to beatings, torture, and humiliation, they endure severe deprivation of basic hygiene, with access to shower water restricted to very brief intervals that can sometimes stretch for days
He added that during the recent war between Israel and Iran, prisoners were locked in their cells for 12 straight days, allowed only two brief outings. Hygiene supplies and disinfectants were extremely limited, and just one razor was shared among all inmates, fostering conditions ripe for disease. Their drinking water came from bathroom faucets, and each prisoner had only the clothes they were wearing.
The Head of the Commission stated that each cell holds approximately 16 prisoners, who were kept handcuffed continuously, day and night, throughout the war period. According to reports from the Commission’s lawyer, the overall treatment remains harsh and inhumane.
He warned against the persistent international silence surrounding the conditions in Sde Teiman and other prisons and detention centers.
He stressed that Palestinian prisoners are enduring the most perilous phase in their struggle’s history, as the occupation authorities exploit external events to intensify their acts of vengeance.
He urged all local, regional, and international human rights and humanitarian organizations to act immediately to halt the torture and executions of Gaza prisoners in Sde Teiman prison, which was established at the onset of the prolonged genocidal war now entering its twentieth month.
