RAMALLAH, May 25, 2025 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Prisoners Affairs Commission has reported that several sick Palestinian prisoners held in the Israeli Naqab Prison are facing extremely harsh conditions since the onset of the genocidal war on the Gaza Strip, which began on October 7, 2023, and has been intensifying day by day.
The Commission explained that its lawyers recently visited prisoner Ahmed Abu Mtawe’, 27, from Tubas, who has been suffering from scabies for a full year. He received no treatment until two months ago, but his condition has worsened, with boils spreading all over his body.
Ahmed also suffers from general weakness, difficulty walking, and impaired vision. Last month, he fell in the bathroom, breaking his nose. Furthermore, he has lost nearly 30 kilograms due to malnutrition. Abu Mtawe’ has been imprisoned since July 2, 2002, and is serving a 27-year sentence.
Another prisoner, Saleh Hamed, 41, from Silwad east of Ramallah, complains of severe back pain due to herniated discs. He also contracted scabies recently but has since recovered.
Bassem Salama from Nablus, imprisoned since July 11, 2024, suffers from scabies with widespread boils since September 20, 2024. He was given medication and ointments two days before a lawyer’s visit and feels some improvement but has not yet recovered. Salama has also lost around 20 kilograms due to poor nutrition.
Prisoner Ghassan Sheikh Qassem, 26, from Nablus, suffers from severe pain caused by an impacted wisdom tooth. Despite requests for medical examination or painkillers, the prison administration has not responded.
Additionally, Firas Dar Al-Hajj from Aida refugee camp in Bethlehem is also suffering from scabies, causing severe itching and boils on his legs. He requires special medication due to a previous kidney donation and has lost approximately 20 kilograms.
