RAMALLAH, Tuesday, June 25, 2024 (WAFA) - The Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission said that the health condition of a seriously sick Palestinian detainee in Israeli jails, from the city of Tulkarm, is severely deteriorating, slamming his case as one of the most difficult medical cases in Israeli occupation prisons.
Detainee Motasim Raddad, aged 42, suffers from severe intestinal infections and bleeding that has caused a sharp drop in his blood pressure. He suffers from recurrent episodes of syncope, along with high blood pressure, shortness of breath and irregular heartbeat, in addition to severe pain in the back and joints.
The detainee receives once-monthly injections that require him to be constantly transferred from Ofer prison near Ramallah to the Ramla hospital near Tel Aviv in Israel. However, he chose to stop treatment due to the severe pain he experiences during transportation in the prison vehicle; called al-Bosta, and as a result of the very bad treatment he is subjected to by the repressive forces (Nachshon) during his transfer.
The Commission’s lawyer said that he was not able to meet with Raddad as a result of his very serious health condition, noting that the last time he had met with the detainee was on February 25. During this period, Raddad was repeatedly transferred to hospitals.
The Commission said that following the onset of the Israeli aggression on Gaza, Raddad was transferred from the Ramla hospital to the Ofer prison, which led to a serious deterioration in his health. He was detained in a cell that lacked the minimum living standards and was prevented from receiving the required medications, in addition to poor food, and lack of clothes and blankets. The Israeli prison administration intentionally delayed the treatment of Raddad, and waited until his condition severely deteriorated before transferring him to hospital.
Raddad, who has been detained since 2006 and sentenced to 20 years in prison, suffered from dozens of shrapnel injuries during his detention. His condition worsened while in prison, and he spent most of his detention in the Ramla prison clinic.
