RAMALLAH, Sunday, June 23, 2024 (WAFA) - The Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission and the Palestinian Prisoner's Society (PPS) said Israeli occupation intelligence re-detained cancer-stricken detainee, Mohammad Zayed Khdairat; who is in urgent need to complete treatment, on the day of his release and placed him under administrative detention, despite an earlier decision by Israeli Ofer court for his release today after paying a fine.

In a joint statement, the two institutions said that the family of Khdairat went to receive him today; the day of his release, and was surprised by the arbitrary re-detention order, without charge or trial, until November 30th.

They slammed the administrative detention order against the detainee as a crime aimed at his slow and systematic killing; just as the occupation has been doing with many other sick detainees in its custody

The statement highlighted the ongoing medical crimes and violations committed against Palestinian detainees incarcerated in the occupation’s jails; which has been increasing at an unprecedented scale since the start of the comprehensive Israeli aggression on October 7th of last year.

khdairat has been suffering from Lymphoma cancer since childhood. Following a long-term remission and treatment program, the detainee was re-diagnosed with cancer a year ago, and he is still in urgent need to complete treatment.

The detainee was supposed to receive 12 more doses of biological therapy, in accordance with a treatment protocol prescribed by the An-Najah Hospital in Jenin, where he was receiving treatment before his detention.

khdairat was detained on June 1 following a military raid into his home for inciting on social media. The statement slammed the pretext of incitement used by the occupation against Palestinians as another face of administration detention.

khdairat has not received any treatment ever since his detention; he has not even been allowed to take his necessary prescribed medication.

Last Thursday, the detainee cried out during a Zoom call with his father saying: “Dad I'm dying.”

The Commission and PPS further denounced the occupation’s policy of placing every detainee it could not accuse of incitement under administrative detention.

The occupation’s systematic use of the policy of medical negligence against Palestinian detainees has sharply increased since the beginning of the aggression in October, forming the most outstanding factor in the death of many detainees, together with the crime of torture and ill-treatment.

According to the statement, there are at least 30 detainees in the occupation prisons suffering from other cancer tumors.

The institutions reiterated their call for international human rights institutions, especially the United Nations, to assume their necessary responsibilities in light of the international failure to end the ongoing genocide in Gaza and the comprehensive Israeli aggression throughout the Palestinian Territory, including the escalated crimes against detainees, which the statement considered one facet of the ongoing genocide.
