Casualties in a series of attacks across Gaza as Israel's genocide goes ahead

GAZA, Tuesday, May 7, 2024 (WAFA) –  A number of civilians were killed this evening and others were injured, most of them children, in Israeli airstrikes targeting various areas of Rafah City, south of the Gaza Strip.

According to medical sources,  four-month-old Mohammed Saqallah, six-year-old Mohammed Qishta, and eight-year-old Hamdan Qishta were killed in an Israeli airstrike that targeted the Qishta family’s home in Rafah this afternoon.

Simultaneously, Yousef Surour, 35, was also killed as a result of an Israeli bombing near the Rafah border crossing.

In Gaza City, a citizen was killed and others were injured in a drone attack in the city's al-Ziatoun neighborhood.

Meanwhile, Israeli airstrikes also targeted several neighborhoods across Rafah, injuring people and destroying houses.

In the Nuseirat camp in central Gaza, a house owned by the Abu Rayyan family was also bombed by Israeli fighter jets.

Earlier in the day, the Israeli occupation forces occupied the Palestinian side of the Rafah border crossing, completely interrupting the flow of aid into the Gaza Strip.

After controlling the Rafah crossing, the occupation forces closed the main land crossing through which aid enters into Gaza, and the wounded and sick leave to receive treatment outside the Strip. This threatens to exacerbate the humanitarian crisis, especially since food stocks in Gaza only cover one to four days, according to the United Nations.

Rafah is the last refuge for the displaced in the war-torn Strip. Since the beginning of the ground operation launched by the occupation forces on the Gaza Strip on the 27th of October last year, people have been asked by the occupation army to head south from the north and center of the Strip , claiming that they are “safe areas.”

Today, Rafah, despite its small area estimated at about 65 square kilometers, accommodates more than 1.5 million Palestinians, who face miserable conditions inside thousands of tents spread throughout the city.

The Israeli aggression on Gaza has so far killed 34,789 people, the majority of whom were children and women, and injured 78,204 others, while thousands of victims remain under the rubble.
