RAMALLAH, Wednesday, December 23, 2020 (WAFA) – Israeli settlers Wednesday overnight detained seven Palestinians, including an injured one, from various parts of the West Bank, according to the Palestine Prisoner’s Society (PPS).
It confirmed in a press release that Israeli forces detained a Palestinian from Qabatiya town, south of Jenin. He was identified as a member of the Kmail family.
While in the town, the soldiers broke into and searched the family house of Mahmoud Kmail, tampering with its content and interrogating all of his family members.
Kmail is a 17-year-old teen who was recently killed by Israeli police following an attempted attack in Jerusalem.
Elsewhere in the northern West Bank, Israeli forces barged their way into Nur Shams refugee camp, east of Qalqilia city, where they detained two Palestinians; a former prisoner and the son of the Director of PPS Office, Ibrahim Hamarsheh.
In Bethlehem district, PPS confirmed an Israeli military raid in al-Arouj village, east of Bethlehem city, resulting in the detention of a Palestinian.
Israeli soldiers conducted a similar raid in the nearby town of Tuqu‘, where they detained another.
While in Tuqu‘, the soldiers stormed a shop and two houses and confiscated the recordings of their surveillance cameras.
PPS added that Israeli troops barged their way into Salfit city, where they rounded another Palestinian after ransacking his house.
During the raid, the soldiers brutally assaulted two others and smashed the windshields of their vehicle.
In Hebron district, Israeli forces rounded up a Palestinian after shooting him near Bani Nai‘m town, to the east of the city.
Israeli forces opened fire towards a Palestinian vehicle in al-Jalajel area, moderately injuring the driver before they detained him and seized his car.
Israeli forces frequently raid Palestinian houses almost on a daily basis across the West Bank on the pretext of searching for “wanted” Palestinians, triggering clashes with residents.
These raids, which take place also in areas under the full control of the Palestinian Authority, are conducted with no need for a search warrant, whenever and wherever the military chooses in keeping with its sweeping arbitrary powers.
Under Israeli military law army commanders have full executive, legislative and judicial authority over 3 million Palestinians living in the West Bank. Palestinians have no say in how this authority is exercised.
