RAMALLAH, January 26, 2011 (WAFA) – The Palestine Liberation Organization’s Executive Committee meeting in Ramallah on Wednesday called on members of the quartet for Middle East peace to support an Arab-sponsored Security Council resolution condemning Israeli settlements.

“We call on the quartet members, who are going to meet early next month, to sponsor this resolution at the Security Council,” he said.

“The Palestinian leadership reaffirms its position that resumption of negotiations demand Israel’s commitment to total halt to settlements, particularly in Jerusalem, and to abide by international law regarding the status of the occupied land,” he said.
The PLO condemned what it described as “the malicious campaign waged by al-Jazeera and which has turned out to be just a tool to distort the Palestinian stand.”

It said “the timing of this campaign is no less dangerous than the wide range and pre-meditated forgeries” of the documents through selecting words out of context.
“The purpose behind this is to divide the unity of the Palestinian people and to give pretexts to parties and countries to widen the division and find an alternative leadership to the PLO,” it said.
It said, “The campaign by Al Jazeera represents a political program to undermine our national program and steadfastness.”
“This campaign,” it added, “makes us more determined to continue on our steadfast course and not to give up our achievements.”
