Eight Palestinians detained, another injured in West Bank raids

SALFIT, Thursday, July 18, 2019 (WAFA) – Israeli forces Thursday overnight detained at least eight Palestinians and injured another in multiple raids across the West Bank, said local security sources.

Israeli forces detained four Palestinians, including a father and his son, after storming their families’ houses in Az-Zawiya town, west of Salfit.

In Jenin district, a large Israeli military force detained two Palestinians in a raid that triggered confrontations in Jenin refugee camp in the northern West Bank.

During ensuring confrontations, soldiers opened fire towards local youngsters who attempted to block their entry. No injuries were reported though.

Meanwhile, two Palestinians were detained and another injured by Israeli military gunfire in Duheisha refugee camp, south of Bethlehem.

Security sources elaborated that Israeli forces conducted a raid into the camp, and detained two Palestinians, including a 19-year-old teen, after ransacking their families’ houses.

During confrontations that unfolded, Israeli soldiers shot and injured a protestor by a live round in the thigh.

The casualty was rushed to a Bethlehem hospital for urgent treatment.

Israeli forces frequently raid Palestinian houses almost on a daily basis across the West Bank on the pretext of searching for “wanted” Palestinians, triggering clashes with residents.

These raids, which take place also in areas under the full control of the Palestinian Authority, are conducted with no need for a search warrant, whenever and wherever the military chooses in keeping with its sweeping arbitrary powers.
