JERUSALEM, July 27, 2026 (WAFA) — Israeli occupation authorities forced the Al-Tawil family on Monday to demolish two apartments in the Al-Shiyah neighborhood of Silwan, in occupied East Jerusalem.
According to the Jerusalem Governorate, the apartments belong to Palestinian citizens Omar and Mahmoud Al-Tawil. Built in 2018, the two units have a combined area of 170 square metres and housed nine family members.
The governorate said the Israeli municipality imposed building fines totaling 120,000 shekels on the family and compelled them to carry out the demolition themselves to avoid paying the significantly higher costs that Israeli authorities charge when carrying out demolitions.
The demolition comes amid continued Israeli demolition policies in occupied Jerusalem, where Palestinian families are frequently forced to demolish their own homes or face substantial demolition fees imposed by Israeli authorities.
