CAIRO, September 21, 2026 (WAFA) — The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States today condemned the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by an Israeli government official and a group of colonists under the protection of Israeli occupation forces.

The Secretariat reaffirmed its rejection of any violation of the sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque and Islamic holy sites, or any attempt to alter their existing historical and legal status, stressing the need to respect the Hashemite custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

It also condemned the continued raids, incursions, and arrest campaigns in Palestinian cities and towns, as well as the detentions, searches, destruction of homes, and attacks against Palestinians in the town of Biddu, northwest of Jerusalem, stressing that such practices constitute a dangerous escalation and a violation of international law and international humanitarian law.

The Secretariat further rejected the closure of the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron to Muslim worshippers and the banning of the call to prayer, stressing its opposition to any measures that restrict freedom of worship or seek to alter the status quo at the holy sites.
