AMMAN, September 20, 2026 (WAFA) – Jordan today condemned the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israeli Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and groups of extremist colonists under the protection of Israeli occupation police.

Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said the incursion constitutes a flagrant violation of the historical and legal status quo at Al-Aqsa Mosque, as well as a desecration of its sanctity and a dangerous escalation and provocation as reported by Jordanian news agency Petra.

Ministry spokesperson Fuad Majali stressed Jordan’s categorical rejection of the continued incursions into the mosque by Israeli ministers, officials and extremist colonists, as well as the protection and facilitation provided by Israeli occupation police.

He said such Israeli violations constitute a blatant breach of international law and international humanitarian law, warning that attempts to impose new realities on the ground aim to establish a temporal and spatial division of the mosque.

Majali warned of the serious repercussions of the continued violations, stressing that Israel has no sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem or its Islamic and Christian holy sites.

He called on the international community to take a firm position and compel Israel, as the occupying power, to end its illegal practices and lift all restrictions imposed on Muslim worshippers seeking access to Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Majali reaffirmed that the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, in its entire area of 144 dunams, is an exclusive place of worship for Muslims.

He also stressed that the Jerusalem Awqaf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Administration, affiliated with Jordan’s Ministry of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs and Holy Sites, is the sole legal authority responsible for administering all affairs of the mosque and regulating access to it.
