RAMALLAH, September 21, 2026 (WAFA) — The Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Mohamed Al-Yamahi, welcomed the UN General Assembly’s adoption, by a majority of 152 countries, of a resolution regarding the participation of the State of Palestine in the proceedings of the Assembly’s 81st session.
In a statement issued on Monday, Al-Yamahi emphasized that the broad international vote sends a clear message rejecting attempts to sideline Palestine or silence its people's voice within the international organization. He described the vote as a victory for Palestine’s right to participation and representation in accordance with the rules of multilateralism and international legitimacy resolutions.
He stressed that Palestine cannot be absent, its people’s voice cannot be silenced, and its just cause cannot be removed from international attention.
He underscored that this stance reflects a commitment to the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent, fully sovereign state with Jerusalem as its capital, in line with international law and resolutions of international legitimacy, in accordance with international law and relevant UN resolutions, as well as respect for the status and rights of the State of Palestine at the United Nations.
Al-Yamahi affirmed that Palestine will remain present at the United Nations and in all international forums, and that attempts to sideline will not succeed in erasing its rights or altering established facts.
He called for respect for adopted regulations and the principles of multilateralism, urging that political measures or restrictions not be used to undermine Palestine’s right to representation and participation.
He further said that the Arab Parliament would continue its parliamentary and diplomatic efforts at Arab, regional, and international levels to support the State of Palestine and its people, and to defend their legitimate national rights, with the ultimate goal of ending the occupation and realizing an independent, fully sovereign Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
