CAIRO, September 21, 2026 (WAFA) – The Arab Republic of Egypt condemned in the strongest terms the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by an Israeli official and a group of colonists under the protection of Israeli police forces.
Egypt denounced this act as a violation of the sanctity of Islamic holy sites and a provocation to the sentiments of Muslims worldwide, warning that it threatens to lead to further tension and escalation.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry emphasized the necessity of adhering to the historical and legal status quo at the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and respecting the Hashemite custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
It warned against any attempts to alter the Arab and Islamic identity of the city or to impose a new reality on its holy sites, stressing the need to halt unilateral measures that undermine prospects for calm and stability in the region.
