RAMALLAH, May 15, 2011 (WAFA) - Israel announced a high security alert Saturday night in preparation to face Nakba commemorations along its northern borders and in the West Bank.
Israeli police said it assigned 10,000 soldiers across Jerusalem and its surrounding villages in order to prevent any rallies or demonstrations on that day.
Israeli forces also announced a high alert on the northern borders with Lebanon, in response to some 50,000 Palestinian refugees taking part in a demonstration, which set off from Beirut towards the southern Lebanese border with Israel.
Hundreds of Palestinians living in Israel will, in turn, take part in a demonstration to meet their counterparts near the borders of Israel with Lebanon. They said they will use loudspeakers to communicate with each other across the border.
Israel's Police Commissioner Yohanan Danino said Saturday that the police will be prepared so as not to permit “disorderly conduct,” but will allow peaceful demonstrations and rallies.
